TODAY'S SAINT (Firminus)

FIRMINUS
Bishop
The dates of birth and death of St. Firminus are not known, but we do know that he was the third Bishop of Uzes, Gaul, followed by St. Ferreolo, and he enjoys a cult that goes back to ancient times. In 541 he was already a bishop and took part in the Council of Orleans, and in 552 he was present at the Council of Paris. He was a friend and disciple of St. Caesarius of Arles and together with other Bishops signed his Rule for Holy Birgins. Then after St. Caesarius' death in 543, he wrote the first book of his Life in conjunction with Cyprian of toulon and others.
About the year 544, the Roman poet arator praissed St. Firminus in the following terms:
"The venerable priest Firmius
is able to fed his people with the gold of
dogma;
his praise reaches to the ends of Italy
and his name possesses a glory outside his
own country."
