TODAY'S SAINT (Adelphus)

ADELPHUS
Bishop
St. Adilphus, Bishop of Metz, lived during the 5th century. According to a Life which appeared in the 9th century and is generally regarded to be apocryphal and legendary, he was born of a noble Burgundian family. A little whille before his birth, an angel appeared in a dream to his mother Beatrice and greeted her with the words: "Hail, beloved of God." He then continued: "rejoice, because you will conceive and bring forth a new Paul, the Bishop Adelphus."
The Life then continues, narrating the birth of Aselphus, his youth, and finally the fulfilment of the prophecy with his election as Bishop He was the tenth Bishop of Metz.
